News and Tips from What's Cooking
In Season:
Berries - Pick berries only when they are ripe, since they don't ripen after they are plucked. Look for berries that are vibrantly colored and aromatic (with the exception for blueberries, which are rarely fragrant). If you buy your berries at the market, avoid ones with juicy packaging or bruised fruit.
Cooking Tips: Get outside and Grill this summer!
- Fish is delicious on the grill, especially when you use a soaked, untreated cedar plank as a cooking surface.
- If you are using a barbecue sauce that contains sugar on poultry or meat, brush it on during the final 5 minutes of cooking, to avoid burning the sauce.
- Cook it till it's done: For steak, the proper temperature is 145-160; For chicken, the proper temperature is 165; and for pork, cook until the temp reaches 145 degrees
